• Location:                          A3 Thursley Junction Improvements
• Project:                             Installation of new over bridge across the A3
                                            Provision of slip roads and other improvements

• Ecological Aspects:       Site adjacent to Thursley Common NNR, SAC, SPA and SSSI. 
                                            Loss of part of Whitley Common SSSI.

                                                     Protected species included smooth snake, adders and common lizard.

• MEL Role:                       To design landscape/ecological habitats to be created
                                            including heath land and acid grass creation.
  
                                            Development licence holder with regard to Smooth snake
  
                                            To ensure existing features are protected during construction

                                                     including watercourses and existing heathland.

                                                     To trap and translocate reptiles from works areas. 

                                                     To manage the area for 5 years post completion.

• Project:                             Construction of houses within rear gardens of several houses
• Ecological Aspects:       Protected species - reptiles

• MEL Role:                        Surveying for reptiles

                                                     Creation of reptile mitigation strategy

                                                     Undertaking trapping and translocation to remove reptiles from site

                                                     Vegetation clearance during nesting bird season

                                                     Habitat creation suitable for reptiles

                                                     Ecological Clerk of Works role to supervise works

• Client:                              Prologis & Norwich Union
• Location:                         Royal Mail Site, Northampton
• Project:                            Construction of warehouse on derelict land
• Ecological Aspect:        The site had planning permission outstanding from 10 years ago

                                                    when wildlife legislation was less of an issue.  Natural England had

                                                    since raised several issues about the ecology of the site and had

                                                    stopped works progressing.

                                                    Protected species: reptiles

• MEL Role:                      Undertook a suite of surveys to ascertain the main ecological issue

                                                   was reptiles.

                                                   Prepared mitigation strategy for removal of the reptiles and creation

                                                   of a new habitat, which has been agreed by Natural England.

                                                   This enabled the site to be cleared of all ecological issues which in

                                                   turn allowed the client to agree to purchase the site without further

                                                   delays.
