Step 4: Habitat Monitoring & Management
Once habitat creation is complete, the site should be subject to monitoring surveys targeted to assess the success of the habitat creation project and focussed on key habitats / species etc identified during the design phase. With wetland habitat creation, monitoring may also extend to hydrological monitoring of water levels.
This information can be used to create short-term and long-term management recommendations for the site to ensure that site’s ecology is maximised and managed in the most appropriate way.
Clients have also benefited from collation of this data to support award applications such as the CIWEM / RSPB Living Wetland Award 2004 for wet grassland habitat creation at Aston Hall Farm, Staffordshire.
